CANONBAIL (V.) ‘kan-nun-bayl  To intend to read great works of literature, but to end up reading Us Weekly, tabloids, thrillers and the like. Usage: Riky ambitiously packed “Moby Dick” and “Pale Fire” for her East Hampton visit, but canonbailed at Penn Station and bought In Style and the New York Post “for the train.” By Sunday, she’d not only failed to crack either of the classics she’d brought, she’d bought two more gossip magazines to take to the beach.
