ASTAIRE N. uh-‘stare A man who people assume (or insist) is gay, even if he dates women, even if he is married, and even if he has children—often because he is especially attractive, well-dressed, musical, aesthetically gifted, and/or good at dancing. Usage: Hugo had a wife, three children, and a Rottweiler named Bunny. His colleagues liked to gossip that he was secretly gay, but he wasn’t: Hugo was a textbook astaire.
